Stocks close low on budget day
The benchmark general index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Thursday fell by 23 points or 0.47 per cent on profit taking, ending at 4,769 points.
The broader DSE All Shares Price Index, DSI also declined 16 points or 0.39 per cent to close at 4,049 points while the DSE-20 index comprising blue-chip shares lost 10 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 3,640 points.
IDLC Finance Limited, a non-banking financial institute, in its market analysis, said the market fell on budget day as the investors were waiting to hear something good for them in the finance minister’s budget speech
“On the day of Budget Speech, investors kept ‘Watchful’ to the Budget and seemed to be waiting for affirmative announcements regarding capital market in the budget,” said IDLC.
Out of 259 issues traded on Thursday, 79 gained, 156 declined and 24 remained unchanged.
The stocks of all the major sectors witnessed fall other than the power sector which gained by 0.05 percent.
The share prices of non-banking financial institutions fell by 1.30 percent, pharmaceuticals by 0.35 percent, banks 0.21 percent and telecommunication 0.10 percent.
The total turnover value on the day stood at Tk 3.0 billion, marking 2.9 percent lower than that of the previous session.
Lafarge Surma Cement topped the turnover chart with Tk 241.8 million, followed by Meghna Petroleum and Titas Gas.
LR Global First Mutual Fund posted 7.29 percent gain being top of the gainers chart, but Libra Infusion was the worst loser of the session.
