Solar power irrigation pump inaugurated
A five horse power solar power irrigation pump was inaugurated at Ramchandrapur village under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah on June 11. Additional Secretary of Environment and Forest Ministry and coordinator of climate change unit, Didarul Ahsan, inaugurated the solar power irrigation pump. A discussion meeting was also held at Jhenidah Polli Bidyut Samity hall room with Sayed Nasir Uddin, president of Jhenidah Polli Bidyut Samity in the chair, while Jhenidah District Council Administrator, Khaza Abdul Hannan, was present as special guest. Caretaker of Khulna Zone of Polli Unnayan Board, Engineer Hajari Lal Sarkar, Director of Energy Department, Abul Kalam Azad, General Manager of Polli Bidyut Samity, Shonkor Kumar, and local elites and a huge number of villagers were present.
The solar power irrigation pump project was completed by Polli Unnayan Board under the project of climate change involving taka 44 lakh.
Jhenidah Polli Unnayan Board (JPUB) sources said, 20 solar power irrigation pumps will be established in eight districts involving taka 11 crore 11 lakh 47 thousand. Of the eight districts three in Chapainawabganj, four in Rangpur, three in Mymensingh and two each in Kurigram, Gopalganj, Satkhira, Tangail and Jhenidah districts.
In Jhenidah the newly inaugurated solar pump will produce 40 kilowatt (KW) of electricity per day which will lift two lakh litres water daily helping to cultivate 10 acres of land.
