Central Rly posts 39% rise in Q1 freight earnings

Central Railway has registered an increase of 39 per cent at Rs 1209.53 crore in originating freight earnings during the first quarter of 2012-13 compared to Rs 870.76 crore during the same period in 2011-12.

The total earnings during the period is Rs 2,169.60 crore compared to Rs 1,752.06 crore in 2011-12, registering an increase of 23.83 per cent.

Total passengers carried in April-June 2012 rose to 835.71 million compared to 762.03 m in the year ago period, registering an increase of 9.67 per cent.

Out of this, suburban passengers were 163.33 m (161.01 m). Non-suburban passengers were 672.38 m compared to 601.02 m last year, registering an increase of 1.44 per cent and 11.87 per cent respectively.
