Abahani strike back with 6-1 win
Joint champions Abahani returned to winning ways in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League, sealing an easy 6-1 victory over Sadharan Bima in their first Super League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Abahani, playing their first match after losing 4-3 to archrivals Mohammedan on Wednesday, dominated the minnows throughout the game as national striker Pushkor Khisha Mimo scored two successive goals in the 15th and 18th minutes before Pakistani Sabbir Ahmed made it 3-0 two minutes later.
Pakistani defender Kashim Ali then converted a penalty corner in the 21st minute to widen the margin to 4-0 before the breather.
The central defender then struck his second goal from another penalty corner in the 39th minute while his compatriot Mohammad Jubair netted the sixth goal in the 44th minute to ensure Abahani's ninth victory in 11 matches.
Ajib Singh pulled off a goal in the 50th minute for Shadharan Bima, who afterwards defended their territory well to keep the margin intact.
With their ninth victory, Abahani took their points tally to 27 from 11 matches, three less than second-placed Usha KC and six behind leaders Mohammedan SC.
