HC questions legality of IDRA chief appointment

 The High Court issued a rule upon the government and other authorities concerned asking them to explain as to why appointment of M Shefaque Ahmed to the post of the Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) shall not be declared illegal.

A division bench comprising Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Md Abu Zafar Siddiqui passed the order following a writ petition challenging the legality of the appointment on August 12.

The court directed M Shefaque Ahmed and the Secretary, Banking and Financial Institution Division, Ministry of Finance to reply to its rule.

The HC also called for records of appointment of M Shefaque Ahmed.
