LP gas price rise hits consumers
The rise in the price of LP gas has affected the consumers of Bagerhat.
After the price rise in January this year at Taka 50 for each cylinder, it was further increased at Taka 80 in February. Since  March 1 the price of each cylinder of LP rose to Taka 180 thus throwing the burden on  the consumers  to purchase their indispensable cylinder gas at a galloping rate of Taka 1,600.
The cause of such a long jump from Taka 1,230 to Taka 1,600 all on a sudden is being explained in the old manner due to rise in price in the international market which is a harping in the same tune.
Although the price rise at short interval has become a regular feature, it seems there is nobody its look into it. The users of LP gas have fallen in acute hardship due to repeated rise at shorter intervals. Of late, the hard-up users have become really aggrieved.
According to the sources,  the prices  of gas of all private companies have gone up from February 29 last thus putting the burden of enhanced rate to be borne by the helpless buyers since  March 1. The total gas which was erstwhile being sold at Taka 1,420 after addition of Taka 180 rise now being sold at Tk 1,600 each cylinder.
In the same manner, Basundhara gas erstwhile being sold at Taka 1,380 is now being sold at Taka 1,550 upon rise of Taka 170. Clean-heart is being sold at Taka 1,590 with a rise of Taka 170 for each cylinder, Jamuna (Private) previously sold at Taka 1,360 is now being sold at Taka 1,550.
According to the sources, with the rise in price of the fuel oil from time to time the price of LP gas was also increased. With the fall of adequate supply of BPC gas, taking advantage of the use of gas by the town dwellers the private companies have been indiscriminately increasing the price of LP gas.
The businessmen told that the misery of the common people is  increasing due to inadequate supply of BPC gas. People has become tired of their lives. Soaring price of everday necessaries, expenses for their children’s education and finally galloping rise of LP gas have upset everybody.  The consumers are united in one question “where is the ultimate end of such soaring price of gas ?” The companies feel delegated at the rise of gas price but nobody is noticeable which can pull back the mad horse price rise.
When  contacted,  Nazrul Islam Manzu MP told that the supply of gas at lower rate in the areas where there is no pipeline supply. It was discussed in the Jatiya Sangsad. That is not being done. Moreover,  the soaring gas price at short intervals is telling upon the economic backbone of the lower middle class as well as middle class. In the face of uncontrolled price spiral of daily necessaries, Nazrul Islam Manzu MP demanded supply of LP gas in Khulna, Bagerhat region at subsidized rate.
