The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (DCCI) organised a discussion meeting with a 52-member delegation from
the National Defence College (NDC) at DCCI auditorium on Thursday. DCCI
President Hossain Khaled presided over the meeting while Commandant of National
Defence College (NDC) Lieutenant General Abu Tayeb Muhammad Zahirul Alam, rcds,
ndc led NDC delegation.
Aiming to share firsthand knowledge on the vision,
roles, capabilities, achievements and problems of DCCI and other business bodies
with the delegation members of NDC, DCCI organised the meeting.
DCCI President Hossain Khaled presided over a
multimedia presentation on vision, roles, capabilities, achievements and
problems of DCCI. He highlighted some activities of DCCI Business Institute
(DBI) in promotion of business by arranging national and International level
training courses for the business entrepreneurs of the country, says a press
release.
He mentioned that last year DBI won the World
Chambers Federation Award 2007 in Best Skill Development category for its
outstanding performance. He also highlighted the activities of DCCI knowledge
Centre, DCCI Research Cell and MBA Programme of DBI in collaboration with
International Islamic University of Chittagong.
DCCI President informed that this year the DCCI is
celebrating its 50th year of foundation and has undertaken name various
programmes including an international Economic Seminar in October 2008 to create
a positive image of our economy and business environment around the world.
Hossain Khaled expressed his happiness on the
outstanding performance of the defence sector in the development of our economy.
He praised their effort in controlling unofficial import, disease management,
maintaining law and order and participating in development activities in
addition to ensuring our national sovereighty.
Mentioning the National Defence College (NDC) as an
important national institution, the delegation leader Lieutenant General Abu
Tayeb Muhammad Zahirul Alam said that the NDC is not only an army institute. The
NDC works for promotion of good governance, national development in
socio-political and economic sector, as also in global context. He said NDC also
works to create readers and High level experts for government and private
sector. He mentioned that his delegation comprised representatives from defense,
police, Foreign and civil service of Bangladesh and 22 members from China,
India, Myanmar, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri
Lanka and Sudan.
An interesting discussion took place among the
members of the DCCI and NDC delegation in which wide range of topics on economy,
trade and business in Bangladesh came up.
Among others, DCCI former President MH Rahman,
Benjir Ahmed, Rashed Maksud Khan and M A Momen took part in discussion.
DCCI Sr. Vice-President Salahuddin, Abdullah,
Vice-President Khandaker Shahidul Islam, Brigadier General Ferdous Hasan, ndc,
psc, Commodore ASMA Baten (E), ndc, psc, Ali Commodore Mahmud Hussain, ndc, psc,
Joint Secretary Mohd Abduz Zaher, ndc, and Directors of DCCI, among others, were
present on the occasion.
