Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, the overseas workers should be registered with proper information. He described them as the country's golden sons and said, they are contributing a lot to the national economy by sending remittance.
The minister was talking to divisional commissioners at his ministry in the city on Sunday, a press release said. He asked divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and UNO and local government representatives to take necessary measure to arrange awareness programme about the workers intending to go abroad for jobs. He said, overseas workers should be saved from the trap of intermediary
"The government is committed to provide all kinds of facilities to overseas workers," Mosharraf said.
Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan, secretary of the ministry and Director General of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Begum Shansunnahar were present at the meeting.
The minister said Bangladesh sent abroad as many as 14,61 lakh people to different countries from January, 2009 to November 22, 2011. The government is implementing various programmes including training courses on language, welding, electrical devices, pipe fitting, plantation, swing trade, and rod binding, he said adding that all these for the welfare of the overseas workers.
