A total of 450 people with physical disabilities, including women and children, receive wheelchairs for free in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
Free Wheelchair Mission, an American humanitarian organisation, donated the wheelchairs through Karmirhath, a Gaibandha-based development organisation, at a programme at Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation in the city.
Health Rights Movement Committee (HRMC) arranged the distribution programme supported by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).
HRMC Rajshahi chapter President Mozammel Haque presided over the event while RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed it as the chief guest.
In his speech, RCC mayor called upon the affluent people to come forward for such kind of help.
He also expressed his gratitude to Free Wheelchair Mission for donating the wheelchairs free of cost.
Among others, Nitain Kanti Das, director of PSTC, Azahar Ali, RCC chief executive officer, Hamida Begum, deputy director of Rajshahi District Social Services Office, Bob Longman of Free Wheelchair Mission, Abdus Sobhan of Karmirhath, social worker Shaheen Akter Reni and Mustafizur Rahman Khan of HRMC were present on the occasion.
A total of 200 people from metropolis area and 250 people from upazilas of the district received the wheelchairs.
