Bonn confce discusses green energy sources for Bangladesh
Speakers at an international conference stressed on the need for development of Bangladesh’s energy sector on an urgent basis as the country is the worst victim of climate change impacts.
Besides, they discussed various ways about possible ways of future energy development in energy sectors from sustainable green sources.
They were speaking at the 2nd International Conference on Climate Change Effects and Energy Development of Bangladesh (ICCEB) 2012, according to a message received here Thursday.
The Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) Germany and the Meteorology Institute of Bonn University, Germany jointly organised the conference.
Speaking as the chief guest, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Mosud Mannan said Bangladesh is a country with huge resources and potentials and it has attained tremendous success in various sectors like agriculture, industry and scientific research.
But these sectors are severely affected by the adverse impact of climate change.
The two-day conference from May 18 discussed the devastating impacts of the climate change on various sectors of Bangladesh.
The sources of energy, ways of future development of power sector and green energy sources were also discussed. Scientists and researchers from different countries took part at the conference.
ICCEB-2012 President and also Professor of Heidelberg University Wolfgang Peter Zingel chaired the opening session on May 18, while Ambassador Mosud Mannan was the chief guest.
