JS body for public hearing on Biman
The parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation ministry has decided to send the allegation of corruption in the appointment of general sales agents in Oman to the Anti-corruption Commission.

As the meeting was of the view that the national carrier seemed to be not accountable to anyone, it suggested a public hearing on the performance of the national flag carrier, Biman.

The members of the parliamentary body said the decisions were taken following the autonomous Biman’s alleged ‘inaction’ to take actions against the wrongdoers in the appointment process of the General Sales Agent.

Earlier, the standing committee in its findings unearthed corrupt practices in the appointment of general sales agents in Oman.

The standing committee last year formed a three-member sub-committee headed by Md Mazibul Hoque to investigate the alleged corruption in the appointment of general sales agents in Oman.

About two months ago, the standing committee accepted the report and urged the Biman authorities to punish the persons responsible for the alleged corruption in the process.

The meeting was attended, among others, by chairman of the committee Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Faruk Khan, Moin Uddin Khan Badol, Faridul Haque Khan and Aslamul Haq.

The poor performance prompted the Biman staff and officers to wage a movement styled “Save the Biman” which resulted in the ouster of the previous managing director.
