Energy sector development endeavor to continue’ |

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on monday said the government will continue its effort for the development of energy sector as one of its priority pledges was to meet the increasing demand of electricity of the people. Addressing an agreement signing ceremony for Siddhirganj 335- megawatt power plant project, the finance minister said good progress was made in generation of electricity during the last three years.
Chaired by Power Division Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, the agreement signing ceremony was also attended, among others, energy adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, state minister for power, energy & mineral resources Muhammad Enamul Huq and country director of the World Bank Ellen Goldstein.
Speaking at the programme as chief guest Muhith said about improving the power situation. About the costly rental and quick power plants, he said setting up of such power plants were taken as a temporary measures with a view to tackling power crisis because installation of large power units need time and planning. The government has a plan to come out of such a temporary arrangement by 2015 and signing of agreement for Siddhirganj 335 MW power plant project is a part of this plan, he added.
Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Ltd. (EGCB) signed an agreement with ISOLUX Ingenieria S. A and Samsung C & F Corporation, Spain for Siddhirganj 335 MW combined cycle power plant (CCPP) Project.
Kazi Nazrul Islam, company secretary of EGCB, Jose Garrido, managing director of ISOLUX Ingenieria S. A and Sungki Na, general manager of Samsung C&F Corporation, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. |
