Launch owner sues owner of cargo vessel
Owner of passenger launch ML Fahmida Happy Express that capsized in the Kirtankhola River on Thursday has lodged a case against the owner and eight crew and staff of cargo vessel MV Sanim that caused the accident, demanding Tk 8 lakh as compensation.

Earlier on Friday, eight crew of seized cargo vessel MV Sanim were sent to jail following filing of a case by police the same day.

Md Ilyas, owner of ML Fahmida Happy Express, lodged the second case with the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Khademul Kayes in Barisal on Monday, said police and court sources.

The magistrate yesterday ordered the officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali Police Station to register it as a regular case.

Mir Al Mamun, owner of the cargo vessel, Md Hyder Ali, master, Md Yusuf, driver, Md Akhter Hossain, sukani, Md Abu Taher, Md Tuhin Mia, laskar, Md Nazimuddin, cook and staff Abdur Rahman and Zahangir Sheikh were made accused in the case.

As cargo vessel MV Sanim hit ML Fahmida Happy Express, damage to the latter and its salvage cost Tk 8 lakh, said the complainant who demanded the same amount as compensation.

Death toll from Thursday's launch accident in Kirtankhola River rose to 41 while 14 passengers remained missing till filing of this report yesterday evening.

However, no case is yet to be lodged on behalf of the victim passengers.
