‘Use latest technology in building houses’
President urges realtors
President Md Abdul Hamid on Thursday advised the realtors to use latest technology in building houses, keeping the risks of earthquake in consideration.
Laying stress on strictly following the building code, the President also advised  Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain to raise the issue of opening a ‘one stop service’ in eliminating dilatoriness in building construction, in the cabinet meeting.

The President was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the silver jubilee celebration of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city yesterday.

“Housing is one of the basic needs of people, but still lot of people of the country are lacking in housing facility, but situation must be overcome if we want to build an enriched nation. The government has been trying its best to meet this demand of people but it is not possible by only the government, so the private sector, specially the REHAB, has to play a significant role in this regard”, he  added.

He further said Bangladesh is a country of 16 crore people, so huge land is being used for meeting the food demand, industrialisation and infrastructure building, so optimum utilisation of land has to be ensured, there is no scope of wasting land by building homes here and there.

Housing Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid attended the ceremony as special guests, with REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Al Amin in the chair.

While addressing, the housing minister said a fund of Tk 20,000 to 50,000 crore may be formed to expedite the housing sector. Nasrul Hamid, in his speech, said REHAB has come a long way today by stepping ahead through passing many ups and downs. REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Al Amin said since its inception back in 1992, the REHAB member organisations have arranged planned housing by constructing buildings for crores of people of the country coordinating with various government agencies.

“The REHAB members have been doing an important job for developing a planned urbanisation and green city. Today most modern buildings, establishments and infrastructures, satellite cities are being built in Dhaka and elsewhere with the tireless effort of REHAB members”, Al Amin added.

He said REHAB has been trying to create new market and promote the market of housing industry at home and abroad by arranging fairs regularly and through the fairs a lot of foreign currency is earned that contributes to enriching the foreign exchange reserve of the country.
