CPA to auction empty containers of Hanjin Shipping
The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) is going to auction empty containers belonging to Hanjin Shipping Bangladesh Limited, now lying in the port premises.
The items include a total of 1894 empty containers of twenty-foot Equivalent units (TEUs) equivalent to 1,057 boxes comprising of 22 lots.
In this connection, the CPA has already advertised for public auction which will be held on April 3 next.
Jafar Alam, Member (Admin) of CPA told The Daily Observer that the Hanjin Shipping Bangladesh Limited has outstanding arrears store rent to the CPA to the tune of more than taka 70 crore.
Despite repeated reminders, the Hanjin Shipping Bangladesh Limited, remained silent and did not pay any portion of the outstanding store rent.
Moreover, the empty containers have occupied a huge space of the CPA premises, hampering normal operations of the port. For which the CPA has decided to sell off the empty containers in public auction.
