BAEC starts testing container with radioactive substance
A nine-member team of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) started examining the container carrying radioactive substance inside it at Chittagong port on Sunday.

The team led by the commission Chief Scientific Officer Debashish Pal examined the container to set work plan.

Chittagong Customs Commissioner AFM Abdullah Khan said the team collected sample for examining and will open the container today.

The experts are trying to recover the radioactive substance safely, said the commissioner.

Mentionable, the customs authority seized the container before Eid-Ul-Azha and kept under the supervision of Megaports Initiative at a safe place inside the port.

Exporter ‘Citadel Global Corporation’ tried to export the container to China under the declaration of ‘zinc oxide.’

During scanning radiation, presence of the high radioactive substance, which is harmful to human body, was detected.

Officials of Atomic Energy Commission in Chittagong earlier examined the container and found presence of the substance primarily.

Legal action will be taken against the involved firms and persons after getting examination report, said customs officials.
