No change in 4G guideline, says BTRC chairman
BTRC Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood said government will not bring any change in the 4G guideline approved by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting held at the Telecommunications Division with the Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the chair.

Satate Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Division Tarana Halim, BTRC Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood, and other high officials of BTRC and Telecommunications Division were present in the meeting.

“Mobile phone operators have raised 23 issues of concerned regarding the guideline. We have discussed their concerned issues and guideline but found that the objections raised by the mobile phone operators are not correct,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Division Tarana Halim told The Independent.

“We asked BTRC to make few changes and the telecom regulator has already done so. Now we will go for 4G auction soon,” added Tarana.

Tarana said, “Though we are seeking foreign investment, local banks will also be allowed to invest.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the post and telecommunication minister on September 11, 2017 approved the 4G guideline. The Prime Minister’s Office forwarded the approved guideline to the Posts and Telecommunications Division on the same day.

In July 4, the Post and Telecommunications Division published the 4G draft guideline in its website. In July 10, the Posts and Telecommunication Division also published the draft guideline for the spectrum auction.

In the 4G draft guideline, it is mentioned that the operators should bring foreign investment. They will not be able to access any investment from the local bank. The speed of 4G is fixed at 100 MPS. The operators have to bear the expense of keeping all data until BTRC permits to delete them.
