More banks 'should receive power bills'

Power consumers of the city's Motijheel area have sought sufficient banking service to pay their power bills in a hassle-free atmosphere.

They raised the demand Wednesday at a meeting with the Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (DESA) in the circle, chaired by DESA chairman Nazrul Hassan. As a part of the DESA's effort to improve the service in the city, the DESA chief has been holding a series of meetings. In Motijheel circle, the power consumers raised complaints about reluctance of some banks to accept power bills.

"We have to stand in a long queue or go to a distant place as nearest banks refuse to receive the power bills," a power consumer said at the meeting. The DESA chairman assured them that he would try to resolve the problems regarding payment of power bills. About 100 of power consumers raised various complaints and discussed their problems with the DESA chairman at the meeting.

In the meeting, the DESA team explained its load-management plan to reduce load shedding in the city in the upcoming summer. The DESA team will hold such meeting in Tejgaon circle on next Wednesday for listening consumers' problems. The DESA board has launched the field-level visit against the backdrop of consumers' allegation about the lack of access to the authority.
