Petrobangla proposes to raise gas price finally
Petrobangla, the state run oil and gas development company, has submitted a proposal to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to increase gas price soon. In its fresh proposal to the regulatory body, Petrobangla mentioned seven categories although it did not mention anything about domestic gas. “We received the gas price hike proposal from Petrobangla on May 23, however, the issue will be sent to the Technical Committee then it will go for public hearing,” BERC source said. However, Petrobangla wants to implement the fresh chart from July 1, he added.
According to the proposal Petrobangla wants to increase per mmcf gas price by 5.23 per cent to 38.95 per cent.
The proposal said it wants to increase per mmcf price of gas for power from TK 79.82 to Tk 84.00, for fertilizer it would be TK 80.00 from Tk 72.92, for captive power it proposed TK 240 from TK 118.26, for industrial consumption  it proposed to increase per mmcf gas price from 165.91 to tk 220, for Tea-garden it  has propsoed to raise gas price  to Tk 200 from Tk 165.91, for commercial consumer it is Tk 350 from Tk 268.09 and for CNG it is Tk 905 from Tk 651.29.
In its proposal it said Petrobangla required Taka 14,607.20 crore to implement its 10 new projects next year.
“We need BERC’s nod in this regard to implement our project,” a senior official of Petrobangla told The Independent
